Annie Reed is a gifted vocalist — a contralto with a lush four-octave range, she is comfortable singing a wide variety of styles including jazz, blues, bebop, gospel, folk, and classical.
Ms. Reed grew up in a musical family in Edmonds, Washington. At Edmonds Community College she worked closely with director Frank Demiero and was a prominent member of the internationally-acclaimed sixteen voice vocal jazz ensemble, Soundsation. As a member of Soundsation Annie participated in a European tour when the group was invited to perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. There were many highlights during the Soundsation years, including opening for Bill Cosby, Mark Murphy, Ernestine Anderson, The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo’s, The Fifth Avenue, Richie Cole, and Dave Frischberg. The group also worked with Ward Swingle of the Swingle Singers, and Meme Perrin of the Double Six of Paris.
In 1986, and again from 1999-2003, Annie was a member of the Seattle Jazz Singers, also under the direction of Frank Demiero. The group worked with the Matt Catingub and also traveled to Hawaii to perform. They also had the pleasure of working with the Vancouver Symphony, performing a Gershwin medley.
In 2000, the Annie Reed Quintet was established. Annie fronts the combo with her powerful vocals and pulls top players from both the local area and abroad to accompany her. Ms. Reed works in this format with many top-name jazz musicians including Eric Verlinde, Chris Pena, Jon Eldridge lll, Marc Miller, Jose Martinez, Paul Tillotsen, Hans Brehmer, Larry Holloway, Clipper Anderson, Pat Broenkow, EJ Erickson and Ed Weber, Roy Hargrove, Eric Schnider, Rich Cole.
Annie Reed is ambitious and energetic as a person and as a versatile and uniquely-talented vocalist. She performs with impeccable style and phrasing and always with a whole lot of soul. She has performed at North City Bistro Seattle Wa, Smalls in the Village in NY, The Green Mill in Chicago IlL, Edmonds Performing Arts Center Edmonds Wa, Egans Ballard Jam House, Ballard Wa and more. She carries her passion for music up on the stage and never ceases to delight, entertain and captivate an audience.
